No fewer than 10 persons have been arrested and detained over alleged car theft and child trafficking in Aba by the Abia State Harmonised Task Force team.
The head of operations for the team, Anozie Ogechukwu, announced this while briefing newsmen in his office in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.
According to Ogechukwu, investigations revealed that the suspects, who were arrested around Bata Bus Stop, had since been terrorising residents of the area and its neighbourhood.
He said the suspects would be handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution, and called on parents to be aware of those with whom they or their family members associate.
Decrying the manner in which some parents expose their children to begging on the streets, he described the attitude as one of the significant causes of child abuse and child trafficking.
”Our job includes arresting and handing over to the appropriate quarters those behind such crimes for onward prosecution, and we will not relent,” Okechukwu assured.
He warned criminals involved in the crimes to desist immediately or be ready to face the full consequences, as the team has begun operation at Isi Gate in the capital.
Ogechukwu assured that the task force would remain committed to its duties and solicited the cooperation and support of the general public for its success.
