TCN Deploys Backup Transformers For 122-Day Amuwo Rehab, Says No Full Blackout

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has announced four months notice within which to carry out rehabilitation works at its Amuwo 132/33kV Gas Insulated Substation, GIS, in Lagos State.

The projects scheduled to last 122 days, from March 18 to July 30, 2026, will be handled by Engineering, Procurement, and Construction, EPC, contractor.

TCN’s general manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, who disclosed this through a statement issued weekend in Abuja, apologizes for the inconveniences the exercise will cause electricity customers in the affected areas.

Mbah said, To facilitate the commencement of the project, there was a temporary power interruption yesterday, March 18, 2026, to enable the safe decommissioning of the Amuwo Substation.

“The outage affected Apapa, Ilashe, and Atlas Cove 132/33kV Substations. Power supply has, however, been restored to the affected substations later yesterday, upon completion of the decommissioning process.”

She explained further that, “During the rehabilitation period, 40MVA and 30MVA mobile transformers at the Amuwo Transmission Substation will be available for Eko Electricity Distribution Company, EKEDC, and Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company, IKEDC, to offtake power for their customers in the affected areas.

“This arrangement is aimed at minimising disruption and ensuring that electricity consumers are not subjected to a total blackout throughout the project duration.
