The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has unveiled a 300MVA 330/132kV power transformer at its Katampe 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation, Abuja.

With the commissioning of the new 300MVA power transformer on Sunday, 24th May 2026, the company said the substation’s capacity has increased from 450MVA to 750MVA.

“The upgrade means TCN now has more power available at Katampe Substation for Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to offtake for onward distribution to consumers in Abuja and environs,” the company’s general manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, stated on Monday.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the general manager (Transmission), Abuja Region, Musa Shuaibu, noted that the installation and commissioning of the transformer underscores TCN’s commitment to the continuous expansion of the transmission network. This, he said, will support increased power delivery, enhance overall grid stability, and facilitate better electricity supply to distribution load centers nationwide.

The TCN said the project was executed under the TCN-World Bank collaborative initiative, which is part of strategic efforts to rehabilitate and expand the nation’s transmission network.
