Sympathisers gathered on Friday at Kamrum, Zango Kataf local government area of Kaduna State, to pay their final respects to the late George Stephen Shekari, son of a former deputy governor of the State, who passed away at the age of 52.

The late George Stephen Shekari was the first son of the late Stephen Shekari, a former deputy governor of Kaduna State.

Delivering a condolence message during the funeral service at ECWA Church Kamrum, former Governor Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi described the deceased as a brilliant individual whose life was tragically cut short at a time when his contributions were most needed.

Makarfi, represented by a former Minister of Aviation and immediate-past chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the State, Mr. Felix Hassan Hyat, encouraged the family to take solace in the belief that he now rests at Jesus’ feet.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Rijo Shekari, a cousin of the deceased and a Senior Legislative Aide in the office of the Deputy President of the Senate, expressed profound gratitude to all who stood by them during their time of grief.

He emphasised the importance of continued prayers and support for the bereaved family, particularly the wife and children of the deceased, urging the church and the community to uphold them in faith and solidarity.

Earlier, mourners were deeply moved by a powerful sermon delivered by Rev. Solomon Guruza Ubasi, titled “Longing for the Home of Righteousness.”

Taking his text from Job 19:25-27, Rev. Guruza reminded the congregation of the believer’s ultimate hope—eternal life with God. He described the home of righteousness as a place of peace, joy, and reunion with the Lord, urging everyone to live in readiness.

“This world is not our final home,” he said. “No matter the trials we face, we must keep our eyes on eternity, just as Job did.”

Addressing the grieving family, the cleric encouraged them to find comfort in the faith and legacy of the deceased, assuring them that for the righteous, death is not the end but a transition to a glorious home with God.

The service was marked by solemn tributes from family and friends, reflecting on the life and impact of late George Stephen Shekari. As his body was laid to rest, Rev. Guruza’s words remained fresh in the hearts of all present—a poignant reminder that, in Christ, farewell is never final.
