Tension On Ore-Benin Expressway As Policemen ‘Fire’ At Passenger Bus

A tense standoff erupted on the Ore-Benin Expressway on Sunday after police officers allegedly opened fire on an Okeyson transport vehicle that reportedly failed to slow down at a checkpoint.

The incident, which caused a major traffic gridlock, sparked outrage among travellers and motorists along the busy highway. In a now-viral video from the scene, several road users were seen trekking on foot as they expressed anger over the shooting. Some could be heard saying the police officer “would not even be able to pay for the car he shot at.”

Witnesses said the confrontation escalated until Nollywood star Mercy Johnson’s husband, Prince Odi Okojie, arrived at the scene and helped to calm tensions. Okojie reportedly paid for the vehicle’s damaged tyre, prompting the angry crowd to disperse and restoring movement along the route.

Authorities were yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
