Have you ever watched a film that felt as though it was telling your story in a strangely familiar way? A scene, a character or a particular moment can sometimes mirror our experiences so closely that it stays with us long after the credits have rolled.
What are movies, after all, if not imaginative portrayals of life, love, family, relationships and human experiences? While some offer an escape from reality, others bring us face to face with emotions and memories we recognise. They make us laugh, cry, reflect and sometimes see parts of ourselves in the stories unfolding on screen.
Perhaps that is one of the reasons we wish we could watch certain films again for the first time: to relive the excitement, rediscover the emotions and experience once more the magic of a story that moved us.
We spoke to three Nollywood lovers about the films they would love to experience again for the first time and the particular scenes that have remained etched in their memories.
For Joy Micheal, one scene in the Nollywood film Rattlesnake was more than a memorable moment on screen; it brought back painful memories of a childhood marked by family tensions and the loss of a father.
The scene, which shows Ahanna being prevented by his uncle from paying his last respects to his late father, struck a personal chord with Joy. Having experienced a difficult family situation during the burial of a father, Joy found the moment deeply familiar, making it one of the scenes that has remained unforgettable.
Joy recalled how watching the film brought back memories of the circumstances surrounding the father’s burial, including the family’s rejection and the distress of seeing the coffin handled roughly.
Beyond Rattlesnake, Joy also remembers Showdown, particularly the performance of Eucharia Anunobi as a lawyer determined to protect a young girl whose family had been killed. Despite watching the film at about seven or eight years old, the scenes in which the lawyer sensed danger and fled with the girl remained vivid.

For Mary Maliq, the most unforgettable moment comes in Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story, particularly the scene depicting Ahanna’s death. The moment stood out as one of the film’s defining scenes for Mary, leaving a lasting impression even beyond the twists and turns of the story.
Film: Rattlesnake: The Ahanna Story
Favourite scene: Ahanna’s death
The choice reflects how a single moment can become the most memorable part of an entire film, staying with a viewer long after the story has ended.
Monica
Film: Monica, by Uche Montana
Favourite scene: Monica chooses forgiveness
As a firstborn, Tubo said the scene struck a personal chord because of its portrayal of family dynamics and the responsibilities often associated with being the eldest child.
He explained that the moment resonated with his own experiences at home, making Monica’s decision to forgive particularly memorable.
From the painful memories stirred by Rattlesnake to the family connection and message of forgiveness in Monica, the choices reveal how deeply a film can connect with its audience. The desire to watch a movie again for the first time is often rooted in the feeling it creates, the memories it awakens and the way its story makes us feel seen. Long after the final scene, those moments remain with us, reminding us why some films are simply unforgettable.
