The North May Not Be Home Again

The recent protest in northern Nigeria, which took a violent turn, should ultimately serve as a stark wake-up call not only for the government but also for the northern elites. The escalating crisis highlights the perilous task ahead, as a significant portion of the population has become directionless due to the collapse of our traditional value system.

The erosion of trust in leadership is alarming, as people no longer regard traditional and religious leaders as credible sources of guidance. Instead, the rampaging population has become self-proclaimed leaders, providing dangerous and misguided directions.

I fear that if this trend continues, even the elites may find themselves confined to Abuja, unable to safely visit their homes. The neglect of human resource development has severe consequences, and any society that fails to invest in its people will ultimately reap the whirlwind of their inaction.

It’s time for the government and northern elites to acknowledge the gravity of the situation and take collective responsibility for addressing the root causes of this crisis. The future of northern Nigeria depends on it.

The people I saw on the streets are the bitter reality of our collective inaction. A child who grows under the warmth of love and care can never manifest the dangerous antics we witnessed on the streets of some northern states. You may train your children to the best of care ,I’m sorry, our children cannot breathe with these unattended kids on the streets. They will always be a choking threat to our existence. Why not prioritize their development the way we invest in our own children?

Remember, one day, the neglected poor of the society will have nothing to eat but the rich. I fear the time.

Bright Irem decision to expand my take beyond the north added more stimulus to the perilous issue on our hands. according to him:,

‘This is a poignant reflection on the socio-political turmoil in Nigeria not just the northern region alone.

It underscores the deepening crisis stemming from a disintegration of traditional values and a loss of trust in leadership, leading to a potentially disastrous future.

From the above Abdullahi O Haruna Haruspice piece, I highlight these, for emphasis and reflection to serve for the whole country of ours and not just the northern region only. #Haruspice wrote this for every region and not just for one:

Nigeria’s Fourth Republic And The Mirage Of Statecraft

It’s time to invest in human resource development from the ground up. Our communities must take the initiative to educate and empower the youth, ensuring they grow up with the skills and values needed to contribute positively to society.

Local organizations and grassroots movements can play a critical role in this transformation.

The bitter reality we witnessed on the streets is a call to action for every one of us.

We must prioritize the development of all children, not just our own. By promoting a sense of collective responsibility, we can create an environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive and where the potential threats to our stability are mitigated.

Remember, the strength of a society is measured by how it treats its most vulnerable and weakest members, and By investing in our people and supporting community-driven initiatives, we can build a Nigeria that is safe, prosperous, and united.

The time for action is now.
