American actor Harrison Ford has said, ‘The work he does with other actors is one of the greatest joys of his life. ’
83-year-old Ford made this known during his acceptance speech at the 32nd Screen Actors Guild Award (SAG AFTRA), where he received the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award.
The actor who shot to fame starring in George Lucas’s ‘Star Wars’ (1977), and hit even more fame with the Indiana Jones feature film series, commended George Lucas and Steven Spielberg for casting him in the wildly successful films that saved his career after 15 years of struggle, shifting from acting to carpentry work.
Ford recalled his early days in college, when he was “struggling in school, feeling lost, isolated, and alone, until he found a company of people, storytellers putting up plays”.
“People I once thought were misfits and geeks turned out to be my people. I found a calling, a life in storytelling, an identity in pretending to be other people.”
He continued: “The work I do with other actors is one of the greatest joys of my life. My career is built on their work, as well as the work of writers, directors, and every single cast member, every crew member I have ever been on set with. I’ve had incredible collaborators at every step of the way, and being able to deliver the work we create together to an audience is an honour and a privilege. And because of that privilege, I have come to know myself.”
The actor also urged fellow actors to be aware of their responsibility to deploy the freedom that being a successful actor affords them to uplift other actors and new entrants in their profession.
“Success in this business brings a freedom that comes with responsibility to support each other, and to lift others when we can. To keep the door open for the next kid, the next lost boy who is looking for a place to belong. I am indeed a lucky guy. Lucky to have found my people and a job that challenges me. lucky to still be doing it. And I don’t take that for granted. I want to say “thank you, truly from the bottom of my heart, to my peers, to my beautiful wife, Calista (Flockhart), and my family who have given me love and courage through it all.”
The humble actor, when interviewed post-award by ‘Entertainment Tonight’ Nischelle Turner, said he was still getting used to people’s compliments about being deserving of the award.
The 32nd SAG-AFTRA Awards took place March 1, 2026, at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles, California.
