Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has opened up about the loneliness she experienced during one of the darkest periods of her life, revealing that she reached out to music executive Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, more than 19 times but received no response.
The actress, who has previously spoken about her prolonged battle with illness, said the experience made her realise that some of the people she expected to stand by her during difficult moments were nowhere to be found.
According to Abubakar, despite sending several messages to Don Jazzy at the time, he did not respond to her.
She also claimed that some colleagues in the entertainment industry neither visited her nor sent anyone to check on her while she was battling for her health.
Recalling the period, the actress suggested that the absence of people she considered friends and colleagues was particularly painful because of the severity of what she was going through.
She said she felt abandoned by people she expected to show concern, describing the experience as one in which she was effectively “left to die.”
However, Abubakar said her survival became a testament to her faith, crediting God for seeing her through the difficult period.
Her disclosure has once again drawn attention to the often-unspoken reality of illness and vulnerability in the entertainment industry, where public visibility does not necessarily translate into personal support during times of crisis.
For Abubakar, the experience appears to have reshaped her understanding of relationships and support, particularly the difference between people who are present during celebrations and those who remain when circumstances become difficult.
