A Port Harcourt-based philanthropist, Kingsley Wali, has declared that all those who made efforts to broker peace between Rivers State governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, were not sincere with their approach.
Wali, who is also the convener of Unity House Foundation (UHF), made the declaration while speaking on a live radio programme, monitored in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
He stated that 100 per cent of the individuals and groups that attempted to mediate in the face-off between the duo were only doing so for their personal benefits.
“It is one thing for anybody to have called for a meeting or any group of people, as for the Niger Delta professionals who tried to step in, I don’t think they were serious.
“Personally thinking, they were not serious; they were only grandstanding as far as I am concerned, with due respect because people don’t want peace.
“If, for example, after saying terrible things about you and I am supposed to be a mediator; I have said terrible things about you. When I come to you, what will be your reaction, am I a fair judge, am I a fair mediator?
“You see, Rivers State is like the proverbial beautiful bride, and everybody will like to have a piece of Rivers State. So, if you keep distorting the unity or whatever in Rivers State for you to get that piece; why not? But, it is up to you to know that this thing that I am doing as a Rivers man is hurting the state more than anything else.
“More than 100 per cent of people or groups who pushed fo peace in the state had interests.
“Politics in Rivers State has been so toxic that people are so factionalised to a point that the central Rivers interest is not considered.
“Everybody now looks at something else; how it affects the person I am supporting; how does it affect my ethnic community? Not the pan-Rivers view. It is difficult to gather pan-Rivers view,” Wali said.
