Following the recent inauguration of the Majidadi Institute of Quranic Research and Advancement, which was opened at Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s 67th birthday, thousands of Memorizers of the Holy Quran have trooped to the Institute to seek admission.

Although only a hundred successful candidates who satisfy the admission requirements will be admitted as maiden students of the institute, young men and women were seen queuing very early on Monday morning as others trooped in their thousands to register for the recruitment process.

Kwankwaso, the leader of Kwankwasiyya Movement and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) had on his birthday carved out part of his home at Miller Road to inaugurate an Islamic research institute for Memorizers of the holy Quran.

Part of the school’s curriculum is to select those who have completely memorized the Quran, teach them English and Arabic languages, among others, provide them with both primary and secondary schools certificates and also certify them with a diploma at the end of the course.

This is intended to give them an opportunity to pursue further studies in the academia.

A 16-year-old boy, Ghali Murtala, who is currently in his second year at one of the Junior Secondary Schools in Kano said he had memorized the Quran and would want to exploit the opportunity to study in the institute.

“We were told that if we conclude the study period, we will be given scholarship opportunity to study abroad” he said.

Khadeeja Abdullahi, who is 17-years-old said she had memorized the entire Quran and wants to be certified so that she can get admission into university to further her education.

“I am here with my aunty to get me registered and hopefully admitted to the institution. I want to get a certificate to further my education and go to university. I have not been able to make it to secondary school”, she stated.
