Three Die, 17 Missing In Adamawa Boat Mishap

Three persons were yesterday confirmed dead and 17 others missing in a boat mishap on lake Njuwa lake in  Rugange area and Mayo-Inne River in Adamawa State.

The executive secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA),

Dr Mohammad Suleiman,  said five people were rescued while on a voyage to buy maize for roasting business.

An eye witness, Mercy Lam, said the victims were crossing over from Njuwa River to Yola town around 5:00 pm when the boat encountered heavy waves due to a heavy rainfall and the boat capsized.

The boat was conveying 21 passengers on board and only six were rescued by divers and a bigger boat which arrived at the scene.

The agency also confirmed that on Monday a boat carrying people from Mayo-Belwa to Mayo-Inne market capsized, killing two persons.

Mohammed said 14 persons were rescued out of the 16 passengers on board.
