An eye witness, Mercy Lam, said the victims were crossing over from Njuwa River to Yola town around 5:00 pm when the boat encountered heavy waves due to a heavy rainfall and the boat capsized.

The boat was conveying 21 passengers on board and only six were rescued by divers and a bigger boat which arrived at the scene.

The agency also confirmed that on Monday a boat carrying people from Mayo-Belwa to Mayo-Inne market capsized, killing two persons.
