Five indigenes of Obidi, Agwa, in the Oguta local government area of Imo State, were on Tuesday killed by a thunderstorm.

A source identified as Ikenna disclosed that four others were lying in critical condition at the hospital after the incident following a brief rainfall that evening.

Already, fear has enveloped the entire community over the incident. Most of the indigenous people said the thunderstorm seemed mysterious, especially as the rain was not a heavy downpour.

Ikenna said, “Just a little rain that rained in the community on Tuesday but hit three people that died instantly. It killed a young man and four elderly women who were traders.  Four people are still in the hospital—the thunderstruck a heavy tree which hitherto provided shade for the people.

“The community was said to have killed their traditional ruler some time back. We are scared it may have been a sign of sacrilege because we have not seen anything like this before”.
