The Tin Can Island Port Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) generated N111.3 billion in revenue in May 2026, as the newly deployed Customs Area Controller (CAC), Compt. Joe Anani pledged to consolidate existing gains and enhance operational efficiency at the nation’s second busiest seaport.

Anani disclosed this on Wednesday during his maiden engagement with journalists at the Command’s headquarters in Lagos.

The Customs boss attributed the impressive revenue performance to improved compliance by clearing agents and importers, as well as enhanced operational efficiency at the Command.

“I am also pleased to inform you that the Command is currently performing commendably in the area of revenue generation. This positive trajectory reflects the dedication of our officers, improved compliance, and enhanced operational efficiency. We intend to consolidate on these gains and, indeed, strive to surpass previous achievements under the preceding administration,” he said.

He noted that the Command would sustain ongoing reforms aimed at improving trade facilitation, strengthening compliance and boosting revenue generation.

According to Anani, efforts would be intensified to surpass previous achievements recorded by the Command, while leveraging the ongoing modernisation drive of the Nigeria Customs Service to strengthen systems, processes and technology-driven solutions that would further improve efficiency and facilitate trade at the port.

He stressed that compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, as provided in the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, would remain central to the Command’s operations.

“In line with our new mandate, this administration will uphold total compliance with all applicable laws and regulations as enshrined in the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023. Compliance will be at the heart of our operations, and we will continue to enforce the law firmly, fairly and professionally,” he stated.

Anani also underscored the importance of collaboration with the media, describing journalists as strategic partners in promoting accountability, enhancing compliance and shaping public understanding of Customs operations.

He assured that the media would be fully carried along in the implementation of policies, reforms and operational activities of the Command, adding that mechanisms would be put in place to ensure timely and transparent dissemination of information.

The CAC further disclosed that the Command would continue to support media development through structured training, sensitisation programmes, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at improving coverage of Customs and maritime issues.

He urged journalists covering the maritime sector to uphold professionalism and adhere to the highest ethical standards in their reportage to prevent misinformation and sustain public confidence in the Service.

“We are committed to ensuring a timely, accurate, and transparent flow of information to enable you to perform your duties effectively. Furthermore, this Command will continue to explore ways of empowering the press, particularly through structured training, sensitisation workshops, and capacity-building programmes.

“We recognise that a well-informed and well-equipped press corps will not only enhance the quality of reportage but also strengthen institutional understanding of our operations and challenges.”

Anani expressed appreciation to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for the confidence reposed in him through his appointment, and pledged to build on the Service’s reforms and transformation agenda.

He also directed the Command’s Public Relations Unit to maintain close engagement with journalists and ensure that all media-related matters receive adequate attention.

The Area Controller reiterated that the Tin Can Island Port Command would remain open to constructive engagement with all stakeholders to enhance trade facilitation, revenue generation, and national economic growth.
