Islamic clerics, political figures, and prominent stakeholders across Northern Nigeria have converged at Arewa House, Kaduna, on Sunday for a special prayer session marking the 74th birthday of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Organised by Arewa Think Tank, the event focused on prayers for national peace and stability, and for the continued success of the President as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The scholars recited the Holy Quran and offered supplications for wisdom, good health, and success for President Tinubu and State governors in addressing the nation’s socio-economic and security challenges.
Speaking at the event, Kaduna State governor, Uba Sani, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Stakeholders Relations, Dr Abdul Ishaq, described the occasion as historic and unifying.
“My presence here is to represent the governor of Kaduna State. This gathering is primarily to pray for our country, our President, our governor, and for peace in the land, as meaningful development cannot occur in the absence of peace”.
On the performance of the Tinubu administration, he said, “If things were not progressing, you would not see this level of support across the 36 states, particularly from APC governors.”
Also addressing the gathering, Senator Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, represented by former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura, likened the administration’s reforms to rebuilding a damaged structure.
“When the President came in 2023, he inherited a system with deep structural challenges. He had two choices: to patch the problem temporarily or rebuild entirely.
“He chose the difficult path of rebuilding, which is why Nigerians are experiencing challenges now. It is only fair to give him another chance to complete this work for the security and stability of our nation”.
Earlier in his remarks, Convener of Arewa Think Tank, Muhammad Yakubu, explained that the prayer session was part of broader efforts to promote good governance, national unity, and peaceful coexistence.
He added that the prayers focused on the President’s health and success, national security, economic recovery, and the peaceful conduct of the 2027 elections. The event drew northern leaders, former governors and prominent Islamic scholars.
