President Bola Tinubu has sent his condolences and sympathy to the family, followers and associates of the Islamic preacher, Sheikh Abubakar Giro Argungu, who passed away on Wednesday.

Tinubu in a statement by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale described the death of the religious leader as a loss which reverberates beyond the late preacher’s immediate community, and as one that affects the entire country, in view of his contributions to the canon of Islamic study and his renowned calls for moral rectitude.

Also, speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas has expressed sadness over the death of a renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Abubakar Giro Argungu.

Abbas said he was heartbroken by the news of the demise of Sheikh Argungu, describing the late Islamic scholar as a dogmatic preacher who used the pulpit to propagate Islam within and outside Nigeria.

“The voice of Sheikh Giro Argungu will long be remembered for his years of Islamic propagation and advocacy for righteousness. The activities of the cleric through the Islamic group, JIBWIS, where he had served as the Working Committee Chairman, has contributed immensely in guiding a large flock of Muslim youths over the years,” he said.

President Tinubu said Sheikh Giro will be greatly missed for his fearless advocacy for the downtrodden and for holding leaders accountable in meeting their obligations to citizens.

Tinubu further condoled with the family, the government and people of Kebbi State, and the Nigerian Muslim community, over the loss and prayed for the eternal rest of the soul of the departed cleric.

The speaker in a statement by his special adviser on media and publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, said the passing of the Kebbi-based Islamic scholar was as painful as it was devastating, noting that Sheikh Argungu was one of the finest Islamic clerics in Nigeria.

He said the Islamic world, especially Nigerian Muslims, has lost one of its leading voices with the death of Sheikh Argungu.

Abbas sent heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Kebbi State, especially the people of Argungu local government area where the late cleric hailed from, over the irreparable loss.

He also commiserated with the national leadership of the Jama’atu Izalatul Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) in Nigeria, where Sheikh Argungu was a leading figure, over the loss.

While praying for the repose of the soul of the late cleric, speaker Abbas prayed that Almighty Allah would make Jannatul Firdaus as Sheikh Argungu’s final abode.
