Minister of Housing and Urban Development Arc Ahmed Dangiwa has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is determined to address Nigeria’s housing deficit through the implementation of aggressive reforms in the housing and urban development subsector.
Speaking when he received a team from LEADERSHIP Newspaper, Dangiwa said the federal government would expand the implementation of the Renewed Hope Housing agenda to ensure the building of estates in all the 774 local government areas.
“On the Renewed Hope Cities, we are constructing buildings in each of the geopolitical zones and FCT while we are building cities made up of blocks of flat terraces and duplexes.
“We are also doing the Renewed Hope Estates for the remaining 30 states of the federation, building 250 housing units in each of the states of the federation and currently 12 states are ongoing, and some are about to be commissioned,” he added.
Dangiwa said the federal government intends to have at least 100 housing units in each of the 774 Local government areas. He pointed out that the government is raising funds for Renewed Social Housing in each of these local governments, making a total of 77 400 housing units.
He pledged his ministry’s commitment to addressing the housing deficits and ensuring urban development across the country in line with President Tinubu’s agenda even as he solicited the support of LEADERSHIP.
“Our mandate is not just about building houses but also creating inclusive, resilient and livable cities or communities. We understand that achieving this goal requires collaboration with all stakeholders, especially the media.
“We want a partnership that will make our work visible on all the platforms of LEADERSHIP. Your platforms remain the most influential in the country and we want to amplify our message and achievements through LEADERSHIP,” he added.
Earlier, the Group Managing Director (GMD) of LEADERSHIP, Muazu Elazeh, who led a team of the newspaper’s staff on the visit, said no serious government could afford to neglect the provision of shelter.
“In the ranking of man’s needs, shelter comes after food and clothing. The focus on the provision of housing is, indeed, commendable and must be sustained,” he said.
Elazeh assured the minister of LEADERSHIP’s readiness to partner with the ministry in delivering its mandates. “LEADERSHIP is passionate about things that enhance good governance and development of Nigeria. We are here essentially to familiarize ourselves with the Ministry.
“We know that this administration, under your leadership and under the guidance of President Bola Tinubu, is making remarkable efforts through the Renewed Hope Housing Agenda to address the nation’s huge housing deficit and we will support that drive”, he added.
