President Bola Tinubu yesterday commissioned the newly constructed access roads in Giri District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), describing them as bridges of inclusion and instruments of national unity.

The President, represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, praised the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for his visionary leadership in transforming the nation’s capital.

“Honourable minister, your actions have brought quality and excellence to communities long left in the shadows. These roads are not just infrastructure; they are statements of intent, our commitment to opening up Giri District and ensuring no Nigerian is left behind,” he said.

He commended Wike for localising the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, noting that development had reached districts like Maitama, Gwagwalada, and now Giri.

“Good governance is not about fanfare, but about footsteps. This is the 13th project commissioned since June 10. The Honourable Minister’s impact is visible across the FCT,” he said.

Earlier, the FCT minister revealed that the Giri District would host major institutions, including the EFCC Academy and a proposed university.

He also cracked down on illegal land acquisitions, including one by a university that had allegedly fenced off 11,000 hectares without documentation.

“We reclaimed the excess land and allocated only 4,000 hectares to them. We cannot allow people to just wake up and grab land without due process,” he said.

Wike praised construction firm Levante for delivering the project on time and confirmed that the EFCC Academy would commence construction immediately, leveraging the new access roads. “With infrastructure in place, development will follow,” he assured.

The EFCC chairman, represented by the commission’s secretary Mal. Muhammed Hassan Joda, expressed gratitude to Tinubu and Wike for the road, which he said would enable the development of the EFCC Academy, a future hub for anti-corruption training and research.

“This road is a game-changer. Upon completion, the academy will house a Cybercrime Research Center and serve as a regional benchmark in financial crime enforcement,” he said.
