President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria (FUEZ), Kaduna State.
Prof. Bunkure, a renowned academic in science education, is currently the Vice Chancellor of Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education in Kano Statè. His new appointment was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The Federal University of Education Zaria, is one of the four former Federal Colleges of Education (FCEs) upgraded to full-fledged universities between 2022 and 2023. In line with governing laws, the Vice Chancellor will serve a five-year term.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu also approved other appointments in the education sector, naming Engineer Abdurrazaq Abubakar Nakore as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano, and Prof. Abdullahi Tukur Kodage as Vice Chancellor of the same institution.
Nakore, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, previously served as Executive Secretary of the Rural Electricity Board in Jigawa State. Prof. Kodage, on his part, is a seasoned academic with decades of teaching and administrative experience.
According to the Presidency, the appointments were part of ongoing efforts to strengthen leadership in Nigeria’s education system and ensure smooth governance in the newly upgraded universities.
