The director-general of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG), Dr Umar Tanko Yakasai, has credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with saving Nigeria from economic collapse, saying his administration has stabilised the country’s economy.

Yakasai stated this at the official inauguration of the TSG national structure and state executive committee members at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano.

According to him, Tinubu inherited what he described as a “shattered and battered economy” but had taken measures that resulted in improved economic indicators and greater financial stability.

Yakasai cited the country’s foreign reserves, inflation rate and gross domestic product as evidence of the administration’s economic performance.

He said foreign reserves had risen to over $53 billion from $3.89 billion, while inflation had declined from over 34 per cent to 15.43 per cent.

He also said Nigeria’s GDP grew by 4.43 per cent in the second quarter of 2026, with nominal GDP standing at N119.27 trillion.

Yakasai further claimed that the federal government had cleared over $7 billion in loans as well as an additional $3.5 billion COVID-19 loan.

He said the administration had also tripled allocations to state governments through the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), enabling states to pay salaries without relying on bailouts.

Yakasai listed the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), financial autonomy for local governments and the creation of additional regional development commissions among the achievements of the Tinubu administration.

He also commended the president for infrastructure projects in Kano, including the completed Kano-Kaduna Expressway and ongoing projects on Gwarzo, Katsina and Daura roads.

The DG said the administration had also demonstrated commitment to Kano through the appointment of over 50 indigenes of the state into government positions.

On the 2027 presidential election, Yakasai said the newly inaugurated TSG structures would immediately commence grassroots mobilisation to secure Tinubu’s re-election.

He charged the national and state officials to work vigorously across the country, saying the group would build on the foundation laid by its founder and convener, Rt. Hon. James Abiodun Faleke.

“We should work hard to do more than what our founding leaders did by campaigning vigorously at the grassroots and delivering President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential elections,” he said.

Yakasai also expressed confidence in the support of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for Tinubu’s re-election, describing the governor as one of the President’s leading supporters in the state.

He said TSG was confident of a “resounding victory” for Tinubu in Kano in 2027.
