Former presidential adviser, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has called on President Bola Tinubu to reconsider his stay in office, insisting that stepping aside may be in Nigeria’s best interest.
Speaking on Arise TV’s Daybreak programme on Monday, Baba-Ahmed noted that the President’s two and a half years in office have not matched the promises or achievements publicly credited to him.
According to him, there is a major disconnect between government reports and the lived realities of citizens facing rising poverty, hardship, and insecurity.
“There’s a wide discrepancy between what he says he’s doing and what people say they are living,” he said.
Baba-Ahmed particularly criticised Tinubu’s handling of security, saying “President Buhari left a terrible security situation and Tinubu doesn’t appear to have improved it; rather, it appears that he has made it worse.”
He also suggested that age, the fulfillment of Tinubu’s lifelong ambition to become president, and lack of further value to offer may be reasons for calling on the president to step aside.
“If President Tinubu loves the survival of Nigeria, I think he should call it quits,” Baba-Ahmed declared.
He added that Nigerians should look for someone else in 2027 “whether within or outside his party, who has better qualities.”
