Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has urged President Bola Tinubu to write his name in gold by restructuring Nigeria.

Chief George said this while briefing the press on Thursday in his office in Ikoyi, Lagos. He said the current constitution Nigeria is operating under cannot move the country forward because it was a constitution handed over to the nation by the military. He added that in the military, power evolves from top to bottom, but in a democracy, power evolves from the bottom to the top.

He maintained that if the country is serious about moving forward, it needs to revisit its constitution.

Chief George said if the federal government is serious about restructuring the country, it should adopt the recommendations of the 2014 constitution conference, which addressed most of the country’s challenges.

“Confab 2014 should be revisited; it has provided solutions to Nigeria’s problems, what business the federal government has to do with local government, and you can  have as many local government areas in your state as it pleases  you.”

Chief George noted that Nigeria is in a precarious situation now, and the nation is in intensive care, and she needs to be saved so that it can survive.

He urged the president to be prepared to take the bold step to restructure the country.

“Asiwaju will be bold enough to say we should go and restructure. We are in an intensive care unit.”

He explained that if the country is restructured, there will be room for state police. He stressed that the state police are very important in securing the country and added that they will equally provide job opportunities for the youth.

He explained that the youths protesting embarked on protest because they were idle and didn’t have jobs.

“The protesters’ issues are sad because the youth are idle.” Chief George said.
