President Bola Tinubu has disclosed plans to deliver over 10,000 housing units across 14 states and the Federal Capital Territory as part of efforts to tackle Nigeria’s housing deficit and create more than 300,000 jobs.

President Tinubu spoke through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, who represented him at the opening ceremony of the 20th Africa International Housing Show (AIHS) in Abuja on Tuesday.

In a statement by the SGF’s spokesman, Yomi Odunuga, the President said his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda was shifting from policy aspirations to measurable implementation through strategic housing projects and public-private partnerships.

He said major Renewed Hope Cities in Abuja, Lagos and Kano were already progressing, while additional housing estates and cities were being developed across the six geopolitical zones.

According to him, the Federal Government recognises housing as more than a social necessity, describing it as an economic asset, a driver of productivity, a source of dignity and a foundation for national stability.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria recognises housing as a strategic national priority and is committed to sustained, whole-of-government support for the sector,” Tinubu said.

He explained that housing delivery required coordinated action across land administration, finance, infrastructure, urban planning, industry, social welfare and intergovernmental collaboration.

He added that the government was implementing reforms to make Nigeria’s housing sector more attractive to investors by improving land administration, strengthening financing frameworks, enhancing project structuring, and promoting transparency in implementation.

The President said the administration was also expanding partnerships with private investors and strengthening long-term housing finance through institutions such as the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.

He urged local and international investors to take advantage of opportunities in Nigeria’s housing market, assuring them of a conducive investment environment while stressing the need for compliance with the country’s laws.

“Nigeria welcomes serious partners who are ready to build, finance and innovate at scale,” he said.

He further assured that Nigeria would continue to engage with continental institutions, including the African Union and the Shelter Afrique Development Bank, to develop solutions to address Africa’s growing housing needs.

He charged stakeholders, including developers, financial institutions, manufacturers, policymakers and development partners, to use the 20th anniversary of AIHS as a turning point for renewed commitment toward closing the continent’s housing gap.
