House of Representatives member for Tambuwal/Kebbe Federal Constituency, Abdussamad Dasuki, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to mend strained relations with the neighbouring Niger Republic to strengthen security on Nigeria’s North-West borders.
Dasuki, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the call after receiving an award from ADC elders in his Sokoto constituency on Tuesday.
“I am seriously advising the governors to prevail on the President to ensure that we improve our relationship with our neighbour, the Niger Republic.
“The current strained state of relations between Nigeria and the Niger Republic is unbecoming and is not a good omen for security,” he said.
The lawmaker, who is also the deputy minority leader of the House of Representatives, decried the recurring security challenges in the country and pledged to work tirelessly to make his constituency, Sokoto State and Nigeria safer.
He further called for the government to take more practical measures to address the worsening security situation across the country.
Hon. Dasuki also urged the recruitment of more forest guards nationwide, arguing that state governors have the resources to fund the proposed state police adequately.
While applauding the leadership of the ADC in the state, Sen. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Dasuki described him as “very patriotic and not greedy.”
He appreciated the award from the elders and commended the leadership of Hon. Abdullahi Maigwandu and his colleagues, expressing hope that the ADC would win the forthcoming 2027 general elections at all levels.
Hon. Dasuki further vowed to provide credible opposition to ensure the success of ADC candidates across all levels.
The state chairman of the party, Hon. Abdullahi Maigwandu, commended Dasuki for his quality representation and sustained efforts to empower his constituents.
The chairman of the ADC elders in the constituency, Hon. Abubakar Sadiq Sanyinna, also praised the lawmaker’s sustained initiatives in empowering all categories of his constituents.
