Tinubu’s Choice Of Akpabio, Barau, Others Apt – Tanko Yakasai

A renowned politician, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, has said President-elect Senator Bola Tinubu insistence on the  choice of Senator Godswill Akpabio as Senate President and Barau Jibrin as Deputy Senate President  is apt and circumspect. 

Yakasai said the decision to support the duo would serve as a reward to the South South and North West loyalists of APC.

Speaking in Kano yesterday, Yakasai, who said Tinubu is the most experienced politician in Nigeria going by his pedigree, said opting for Akpabio will help him to deliver his mandate.

“Don’t forget that Tinubu as a two term Governor and also a Former Senator knows what he is doing hence the choice of Akpabio and Barau Jibrin was not done without genuine reason. 

He continues, “Yes it is true that there are other regions who are gunning for the Senate Presidency, but did they support APC during the Presidential Elections, do they have the required Political pedigree in maintaining the Party’s  strength and support even beyond 2023, I doubt much”.

Yakasai said the Red Chamber is a critical component of a successful government, adding “It is the Senators that decide who becomes what in any government through the screening of the Appointees, therefore the President needs somebody  he will trust to help him accomplish his mission”.

He explained that the designers of the Nigerian and American Constitutions, made it mandatory and legal that the Senate, not even the House of Representatives, has the powers to scrutinize and determine who is appointed to every political office in the countries.

Yakasai said Akpabio is not a pushover and overzealous senator, stressing he is an experienced person who was also a two terms governor therefore he definitely knows his onions.
