Wife of the president, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, has distributed food items to physically challenged and internally displaced persons in Nasarawa State.
The food items were distributed to selected beneficiaries across the state yesterday in Lafia.
She said, “I’m delighted to be in Lafia today (Tuesday) for the official hand-over and symbolic presentation of food items to internally displaced persons, people living with disabilities and other vulnerable groups in Nasarawa State under the ‘Renewed Hope Initiative’ food outreach scheme as part of our Social Investment Programme.
“The food outreach scheme is specially designed to support the underprivileged in line with the resolve of the administration of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, to leave no one behind in ensuring food security and sufficiency in the country.
“Under this scheme, a trailer load of assorted food items is being donated to the state government for onward distribution to identified groups courtesy of a notable and public-spirited industry that has committed to making the food items available every month,” she explained.
Speaking at the event, Mrs Tinubu revealed that the Renewed Hope Initiative governing council has also approved a grant of N50,000 to 1,000 women in the state under the women’s economic empowerment programme.
She said the amount will soon be disbursed to beneficiaries from the 13 local government areas of the state.
Represented by the vice president’s wife, Hajiya Nana Kashim Shettima, the first lady disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Renewed Hope Initiative, has concluded plans to donate a truckload of fertiliser and bags of rice to each state starting from Nasarawa State.
She thanked the Renewed Hope Initiative State coordinator in the state, Hajiya Silifat Abdullahi Sule, for the warm reception and support.
