A fatal road traffic accident at the Police Commissioner’s Junction in Maiduguri on Friday claimed two lives and left six others injured.
According to Usman Muhammad, sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Borno State, the crash occurred when a Howo truck experienced brake failure and rammed into a stationary Toyota Corolla and two tricycles at the junction.
Muhammad said, “The crash involved a Howo truck, a Toyota Corolla, and two tricycles. The cause was a mechanical fault , brake failure of the tipper truck. Eight people, all male adults, were involved; two died, and six sustained injuries.”
Emergency services were promptly dispatched to rescue and treat the victims. The injured were taken to Specialist Hospital Maiduguri for medical care, while the deceased were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
The FRSC has launched an investigation to determine the full circumstances of the incident. Muhammad urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads, adhere strictly to traffic regulations, and maintain their vehicles regularly to ensure safety.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
