Tobi Amusan led Nigeria’s five-member contingent to a combined $130,000 in prize money at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, Hungary.

Amusan claimed Nigeria’s highest finish at the three-day championship, winning silver in the women’s 100m hurdles and pocketing $75,000.

The world champion clocked 12.34 seconds in the final to finish behind American Masai Russell, who won in 12.22 seconds. The Netherlands’ Nadine Visser took bronze in 12.39 seconds.

Kayinsola Ajayi was Nigeria’s next highest earner after finishing fourth in the men’s 100m, a performance that earned him $25,000.

Ezekiel Nathaniel placed sixth in the men’s 400m hurdles to collect $14,000, while Udodi Onwuzurike finished eighth in the men’s 200m and earned $10,000.

Ella Onojuvwevwo completed Nigeria’s prize-money haul with a 12th-place finish in the women’s 400m, earning $6,000.

The five athletes’ combined earnings accounted for Nigeria’s entire $130,000 haul from the championship, which featured many of the world’s leading athletes competing for a record $10 million prize fund.
