The widow of late Nigerian gospel singer, Toluwanisings, Damilola Olayemi, has reportedly agreed to have her husband buried at his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State, following days of controversy over his final resting place.
The decision comes after an alleged disagreement between the 32-year-old widow and the singer’s family over where his remains should be laid to rest.
In a viral interview, members of the deceased’s family had alleged that Damilola rejected their proposal to bury the singer at his Ibadan residence, reportedly insisting that he should instead be buried in a cemetery.
However, Toluwanisings’ father reportedly maintained that his son should be taken to his hometown and buried beside his late mother if burial at the Ibadan residence was not possible.
The disagreement generated reactions on social media, with some Nigerians questioning the widow’s position and calling for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s sudden death.
But speaking amid the controversy in an Instagram video on Sunday, Toluwanisings’ close associate and colleague, Lanre Alewilese, disclosed that the disagreement between the widow and her father-in-law had been resolved.
Alewilese described the situation as a misunderstanding and appealed to Nigerians to allow the family to mourn the deceased in peace.
He also defended the widow, describing her as accommodating and urging the public not to subject her to further pressure while she grieves.
“Please, for God’s sake, let peace reign. Damilola is very young for what she’s currently going through. I’m very close to the deceased; his wife is accommodating. All his band members can attest to this.
“The disagreement between Toluwanisings’ father and his widow has been resolved. What happened was just a misunderstanding,” he said.
Alewilese further confirmed that both parties had agreed to bury the singer at his Ibadan residence.
“The duo have agreed to bury Toluwanisings at his house. Please, Nigerians, let there be peace. If you truly love the singer, let his wife have peace now that his burial place has been resolved,” he added.
He urged Nigerians to respect the widow’s grief and allow the family to proceed with the burial arrangements without further controversy.
