Nigerian actress Tonto Dikeh has warned against seeking validation from the public. She described the need for constant approval as a “thief of destinies”.
In a social media post, Dikeh said many people put their goals on hold because they are more focused on being accepted by others.
She noted that the desire for approval often leaves people afraid of criticism and under pressure to follow public expectations.
According to her, many end up abandoning their dreams, hiding their talents and missing opportunities. She added that true fulfilment comes from knowing who you are and staying committed to your purpose, even when no one is applauding.
She said public opinion does not last forever. Destiny, however, endures. According to her, achieving greatness often means standing by your beliefs rather than seeking approval from others.
Dikeh wrote: “Public Validation: The Thief of Destinies. Public validation becomes dangerous when people allow others’ opinions, applause, or approval to determine their worth and direction in life. Many destinies have been delayed, diverted, or destroyed because individuals chose acceptance over purpose.
“When a person constantly seeks validation, they become vulnerable to societal pressure, fear of criticism, and the need to impress others. Instead of pursuing their God-given vision, they begin to live according to expectations and trends. Dreams are abandoned, talents are hidden, and opportunities are missed because of the desire to be approved by the crowd.
“True fulfilment comes from knowing who you are and staying committed to your purpose, even when others do not understand or applaud your journey. Public opinion is temporary, but destiny is permanent. Those who achieve greatness are often those who learn to value purpose above popularity and conviction above validation.
“Never let the applause or criticism of people become louder than the voice of your purpose,” she concluded.
