Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh, and talent manager and founder of record label Made Men Music Group (Triple MG), Ubi Franklin, are to extend a hand of generosity to a woman who moved into an unfinished building with her family.
The woman, Joy Asiwaju, caught the celebs’ attention after she posted a video showing her family moving into their unfinished three-bedroom house, expressing deep gratitude despite the lack of basic amenities like toilets or a finished ceiling.
The video went viral as she gave a “house tour” of the building, showing where they would sleep on the floor and pointing out areas that still needed work, expressing a positive attitude.
While some criticised her for moving into an unsafe structure, she later revealed that her previous rented apartment was so dilapidated that her children were constantly drenched by rain.
Several public figures were moved by her resilience and stepped in to help. Tonto Dikeh announced a ₦1 million donation, stating she felt a spiritual conviction to help Joy complete the home. She also mentioned that some of her anonymous friends were willing to contribute to the cause.
Ubi Franklin identified Joy as the very first beneficiary of his “40 for 40” giveaway (a ₦40 million fund to celebrate his 40th birthday). He pledged ₦1 million and, shortly after, confirmed that the money had been sent.
Another actor, Williams Uchemba, was among the first to spark the movement. He pledged ₦1 million and used his platform to find her, promising that the house would be completed within 60 days.
The support didn’t stop with cash. After the celebrity involvement, photos and videos have since emerged showing truckloads of cement and building materials arriving at the site.
Other social media users joined in, with some pledging to handle specific tasks like the installation of the Water Closets (WC) and bathroom fittings.
The woman, full of gratitude, has since posted updates showing construction work in full swing, thanking the good Samaritans who turned her viral moment into a life-changing intervention.
