Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement with Manchester City to sign Brazilian winger Savinho in a deal that could be worth up to £85 million.

Spurs will pay an initial £75 million upfront, with a further £10 million in potential add-ons — £5 million of which are considered highly achievable. The 22-year-old has been given permission to undergo a medical in north London before signing a long-term contract.

The move to Tottenham has been more than 12 months in the making. Spurs first attempted to sign Savinho last summer, discussing a package worth around €50 million (£43.3 million), but City were unwilling to sell at that stage and subsequently tied him to a new contract in October 2025 that runs until 2031. Savinho opted to remain at the Etihad Stadium, but his game time under Pep Guardiola was limited last season, with the winger making just seven Premier League starts.

Savinho came through the academy of Atletico Mineiro in his native Brazil before joining French club Troyes — owned by the City Football Group — in 2022. He had loan spells at PSV Eindhoven and fellow CFG side Girona before joining Manchester City in 2024 in a deal worth €40 million. He has made 53 appearances for City, scoring twice and providing 12 assists. He was not included in the City squad for new head coach Enzo Maresca’s first game, a 3-0 Community Shield defeat to Arsenal on August 16.

The deal represents a record sale for Manchester City and takes Tottenham’s summer spending past £300 million. Spurs have already spent a combined £185 million on midfielders Mateus Fernandes from West Ham and Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, with head coach Roberto de Zerbi next turning his attention to strengthening his attack.

The club have also signed Jan Paul van Hecke for a fee, while Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka have arrived as free agents. Tottenham have recouped approximately £140 million through the sales of captain Cristian Romero, Djed Spence and Luka Vuskovic.

Spurs are unlikely to end their spending with Savinho’s arrival. Sources have told BBC Sport that talks for City team-mate Omar Marmoush are progressing positively. The Egypt forward, a £59 million signing from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2025, fell down the pecking order at City last season.

Tottenham also remain interested in Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo, though it is unclear whether they could finance a deal for the Netherlands international in addition to moves for Marmoush and Savinho.

Tottenham kick off their Premier League campaign at Brentford on Saturday while City host Bournemouth on Sunday.
