Nigerian actress Toyin Adewale has opened up about her son, Mayorkun, and his early days with Afrobeats star Davido and his DMW team.

Mayorkun rose to fame after being discovered by Davido and signed to Davido Music Worldwide. Speaking in an interview with Biola Bayo, Adewale said she broke down in tears when she first saw her son working with the singer.

She recalled being present when Davido called Mayorkun. According to her, he was thrilled by the opportunity. Davido then invited him to the studio the following day. The session later produced Eleko, the song that launched his music career.

Adewale also spoke about meeting Davido and his team for the first time. She described the experience as pleasant and respectful. She said the crew welcomed her warmly and addressed her as “Mummy”.

She said:

“The first time I came back from America, I came back after nine years. When I got back, and I saw them, I stepped to one side and cried. (I stepped aside and wept). I said thank you, God cause they really make me proud. I was there when Davido called him; he actually wanted to go crázy. He said Davido told him to come the next day to record a song. That was the night they recorded Eleko”.

Toyin Adewale recalled that Mayorkun had a passion for writing poems and singing long before he rose to fame.

She also thanked those who supported his journey and prayed for their continued success.

“Mayowa has always been someone who writes poems and loves to sing. I got there, and the boy was so pleasant. All their crews were so pleasant and respectful. They were calling me ‘Mummy’. I thank God for him; they will all prosper. They won’t fall by God’s grace“, she added.
