Turkish Süper Lig club Trabzonspor has officially confirmed it is in advanced negotiations to sign former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, dramatically hijacking the deal after cross-city rivals Beşiktaş walked away from talks.
In a statement posted on its official X account, Trabzonspor announced the Egyptian international will arrive in Turkey today, with a scheduled landing at Istanbul Atatürk Airport before traveling to Trabzon. The club promised further details on his welcome program would be released through official channels.
The move comes as a stunning twist in the transfer saga, with initial speculation heavily linking the 34-year-old to Beşiktaş. However, those negotiations reportedly collapsed over financial and structural disagreements, allowing Trabzonspor to swoop in and secure what would be one of the biggest signings in Turkish football history.
Salah leaves Liverpool after a glittering eight-year spell that cemented his status as one of the Premier League’s all-time greats. During his time at Anfield, he amassed two Premier League titles, a UEFA Champions League trophy, an FA Cup, two League Cups, and a Club World Cup.
He finished with 257 goals in 442 appearances across all competitions—third on Liverpool’s all-time scoring list behind only Ian Rush and Roger Hunt—and 191 Premier League goals, placing him fourth in the competition’s all-time standings.
The forward’s arrival in Trabzon is expected to spark massive fanfare, with supporters eager to welcome a player who redefined goalscoring during his prime and remains one of football’s most marketable stars, even as he moves into the later stages of his career.
