Traditional rulers have taken a firm stance against protests that may lead to looting and civil unrest.
This declaration comes in the wake of a proposed nationwide protest that is due to start on August 1st.
Following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, told State House correspondents that while citizens have the right to protest, the traditional institution cannot endorse actions that may result in lawlessness and destruction of property.

We traditional Rulers are not engaged in supporting people, especially the youths, coming out to start looting and breaking down law and order,“ Oba Adeyeye stated.

Also speaking, the Emir of Zazzau urged Nigerians to remain calm and patient in the face of current challenges.

The message we are taking back to our people is to be calm, exercise patience, and to also listen to the words of wisdom coming from the Government,“ the Emir stated.

He expressed optimism about the President‘s plans, saying, „The President has given us the blueprint of what he has been doing over time, and we are hopeful that by God‘s grace it will be alright.“

However, the Emir didn‘t shy away from addressing the pressing issues facing the nation, particularly in the northern regions. „We have made it very clear to him, the main problem in this country, especially the north, is insecurity,“ he emphasised.
