Tragedy As 4 Almajiri Students Die After Suspected Food Poisoning In Kano

Four Almajiri students have died after reportedly consuming food suspected to have been contaminated in Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State.

The deceased were students of Malam Iliyasu Mai Tsangaya’s Tsangaya, located in Kadage Sharifai within the local government area.

The incident was disclosed in a statement issued by the National Chairman of the Tsangaya Media Network, Alaramma Sani Musa Nuhu, and made available to reporters in Kano.

According to the statement, the affected students were rushed to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for medical attention after reportedly falling ill after consuming the suspected contaminated food.

However, the students reportedly died at the hospital on Sunday night, 16 August 2026.

The statement did not disclose the type of food the students consumed or the substance suspected of causing the poisoning.

It also did not state whether other students who consumed the food were affected or whether any investigation into the incident had commenced.

It said the funeral prayers for the deceased were conducted after obtaining approval from the local village head, known as the Dagaci, and the commander of the area police division.

The remains of the four students were subsequently buried, according to the statement.

The circumstances surrounding the suspected food poisoning remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.
