The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Enugu Region, inaugurated a new 75MVA 132/33kV power transformer at its Mile 50 Abakaliki Transmission Substation in Ebonyi State on Friday, January 24, 2026.
“The commissioning”, according to a statement issued and signed by Ndidi Mbah, general manager Public Affairs TCN, “has boosted the substation’s capacity to 135MVA, enhancing its wheeling capacity and enabling more bulk power supply to Enugu Electricity Distribution Company for distribution to Ebonyi State and parts of Cross River State.”
The general manager, Enugu Region, Dr Thomas Inugonum, GM (Transmission), revealed that TCN had approved the procurement of a new 60MVA power transformer to replace a decommissioned leaking unit. This will add 48MW to the substation’s capacity upon completion.
This transformer project is part of the ongoing TCN-World Bank power projects aimed at further enhancing power supply in Nigeria.
