National Association of Commercial Tricycle and Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association (NACTOMORAS), FCT chapter is appealing for an inclusion in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCDA), proposal to roll out new buses and taxis for public transportation.
At a joint briefing in Abuja between the NACTOMORAS and the Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), they said that tricycle riders have provided employment to a large number of youths, including university graduates and cannot be taken out of jobs without a new means of livelihoods.
Recall that recently, the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike disclosed plans to ban commercial tricycle operations in the FCT and replace them with new buses.
But the association said it has contributed immensely to the economic development of the FCT and can not be misrepresented as “agents of criminals” allegedly said by the minister.
FCT chairman of NACTOMORAS, Bala Haruna said that such statement was insensitive and a gross misrepresentation of the hardworking and law-abiding members of their industry.
Haruna added that several efforts to engage the minister on the development has proved abortive.
He however said that NACTOMORAS remains committed to working with the FCT administration to ensure a safe, secure and prosperous FCT.
He said, “It is a matter of engagement, if the FCT minister call on us, ask us how we are going to join hands together with them and create an alternative for our members, we will support him.”
