It was gathered that the suspect was arrested by the troops of 242 Battalion in conjunction with Intelligence operatives at Charamari area of the town on November 14, 2023.

He was arrested in connection with a threat letter purportedly from ISWAP terrorists on their plan to attack Monguno town on November 17, 2023.

The letter, signed by one Amir Hallat Muhammed, reads: “People of Monguno should be prepared. We (ISWAP) are coming to attack you on Wednesday.”

Sources, according to Zagazola Makama, a Counter-Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in the Lake Chad, revealed that the purported letter had caused panic among residents of Monguno town even as it was later discovered that it allegedly originated from ISWAP elements to cause panic.

A competent military source who dispelled the apprehension, said the military was ever ready to deal with any threat.

“They have tried before and failed woefully, let them try it, Monguno is their burial ground. They themselves know it,” said the military source.

In a related development, troops of 27 Task Force Brigade, Sector 2, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have repelled an attack from the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists in the outksirt of Buni Yadi in Gujba local government area of Yobe State.

It was gathered that on November 13, 2023, at about 3am, an unspecified number of ISWAP terrorists who came from Kaushuruma with three guntrucks and four motorcycles, launched a probing attack on Charlie Compang location of 120 Task Force Battalion behind Buni Yadi.

The attack was a reprisal to the killing of five terrorists in Malumti around Buni Gari and the recovery of several equipment, including one Conquero Amoured Personnel Carrier (APC).

Intelligence sources revealed to Zagazola Makama that the troops successfully repelled the attack after a heavy gunbattle, forcing the terrorists to withdraw into the bush.

“No casualty was recorded by the troops at the location, while the terrorists are believed to have escaped with their casualties including those with gunshot wounds as traces of blood were seen all over the places at the withdrawal route of the terrorists.

“The general security situation in Buni Gari and environs has remained normal and under control,” the sources said.
