Troops Foil Suspected Attack, Destroy IED Bomb In Borno

Troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade Garrison have recovered and destroyed two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) planted along the Gwoza-Wala Road in Borno State.

The explosives were detected at about 8:50 a.m. on August 2 during a routine patrol between the Golf Bravo and Papa 2 locations along the route.

According to security sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama, the troops quickly secured the area after identifying the suspicious devices and called in an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team to neutralise the threat.

The EOD personnel safely recovered the explosives before carrying out a controlled in-situ detonation of both IEDs.

The operation was completed without casualties or damage to property.

Military sources said the successful operation “prevented a potential attack on security personnel and civilian road users.”

They added that “clearance and route-sanitisation operations remain ongoing across the North-East to deny terrorists the ability to emplace explosive devices on major supply routes.”
