Troops Kill 109 Terrorists, Arrest 81, Rescue 43 Hostages

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) said troops on internal security across the country in the past one week have neutralised 109 terrorists and arrested 81 others.

A statement by the Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba on Friday said troops also rescued 43 kidnap hostages, arrested six suspected oil thieves and recovered stolen crude worth N618,756,470.00 during the period.

Troops also recovered 21 assorted weapons and 124 assorted ammunition in the period under review.

Buba gave the breakdown of recovered weapons to include nine AK-47 rifles, five fabricated rifles, four dane guns, three locally made pistols, seven magazines, 97 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 22 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, five live cartridges, three baofeng radios, four vehicles, six motorcycles and four mobile phones amongst other items.

Troops in the Niger Delta area also discovered and destroyed 10 illegal refining sites, 10 crude oil cooking ovens, 10 dugout pits, 12 boats, and four storage tanks.

They also recovered three pumping machines, 12 speedboats, 20 drums, two motorcycles, one mobile phone and four vehicles among others.

The director added that troops also recovered 631,709 litres of stolen crude oil, 3,140 litres of illegally refined AGO and 2,250 litres of PMS.
