Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have rescued a kidnap victim during the ongoing Operation Peace Shield in Taraba State.

The Army announced the development in a post shared on its official Facebook page on Wednesday morning.

According to the statement, the troops, who were deployed at Dogon Gawa in Taraba State, sighted and rescued the man abandoned in the bush by his captors during a search-and-rescue operation conducted on January 27, 2026.

The victim was later identified as Mr. Ghali, who was reportedly abducted alongside another victim, Mr. Simon Oluchukwu, on January 11, 2026, at Gbise Village, Mbayonga, Benue State. Their driver was said to have been killed by the kidnappers during the attack.

“Following his rescue, Mr. Ghali was immediately debriefed, provided with necessary medical care, and subsequently reunited with his family,” the statement read.

The Commander of 6 Brigade/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their “tenacity, courage, and professionalism,” noting that the operation to rescue the remaining victim would be intensified.

“Operations in the area will be further strengthened to ensure the rescue of the remaining victim and the arrest of the perpetrators,” General Uwa assured.

He further urged the public to “continue to support ongoing military operations by providing timely and credible information to security agencies.”
