Two Men Jailed Over Violent Anti-Migrant Protests Outside UK Asylum Hotel

Two men have been jailed for their involvement in violent protests outside a hotel housing asylum seekers in Epping, Essex, last summer.

Charlie Land, 24, and Jonathan Glover, 48, were convicted of violent disorder following a 10-day trial at Chelmsford Crown Court.

Glover, from Waltham Abbey, was sentenced to 30 months in prison, while Land, from Hatfield, received 32 months after also being convicted of criminal damage.

Essex Police said footage showed Glover shouting at officers and obstructing police vehicles as they arrived in Epping on July 17. Drone and body-worn camera footage also captured Land repeatedly damaging police vehicles during the protests.

A third man, Keith Silk, 34, of Loughton, was also convicted of violent disorder and criminal damage during the trial. He is due to be sentenced on November 10.

Police said 11 men have now been convicted over their conduct during the protests, with 10 sentenced so far. Their immediate custodial sentences total more than 17 years.

Chief Inspector Terry Fisher said the disorder left residents feeling “scared and anxious”, disrupted daily life and affected local businesses.
