The Universal Basic Education Commission has commenced the training of state education officials on the Book Supply Chain and Track ’N’ Trace System under the HOPE-EDU Programme.

The five-day regional workshop, held in Kano, is aimed at equipping officials with the skills and accountability mechanisms required to ensure the transparent procurement, tracking and distribution of teaching and learning materials to schools.

Declaring the workshop open, the Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr Aisha Garba, urged participating states to demonstrate readiness to implement Result Area One of the programme by 15 November 2026.

She described the deadline as critical to unlocking the first round of programme disbursement, stressing that states must meet the required conditions for effective implementation.

Garba said the Track ‘N’ Trace system would help ensure that quality learning materials reached the right schools and pupils while promoting transparency and accountability throughout the supply chain.

“The workshop on the book supply chain and Track ‘N’ Trace System will ensure that quality materials reach the right schools and students with transparency and accountability at every stage,” she said.

She explained that Result Area One was designed to ensure that Nigerian children acquired foundational literacy and numeracy skills, noting that structured pedagogy and an efficient book supply chain were key components of the intervention.

According to her, the training brought together officials from state Ministries of Education, including directors and officers responsible for academic services, monitoring and evaluation, procurement, planning, research and statistics, ICT, and other relevant units.

She said the workshop would strengthen participants’ capacity in procurement, distribution, monitoring and evaluation, as well as the use of key performance indicators, reporting and feedback mechanisms.

Garba urged the participants to apply the knowledge gained to improve planning and implementation in their respective states.
