The lawmaker representing Ideato North/South federal constituency of Imo State, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, has congratulated Hon. Fred Agbedi on his election as the new leader of the PDP Caucus in the House of Representatives.
Agbedi, who is from Bayelsa State and chairs the House Committee on FCT Area Councils and Ancillary Matters, was elected Wednesday night during an emergency caucus meeting of PDP lawmakers in the Green Chamber.
In a congratulatory message issued shortly after the vote, Ugochinyere, who also chairs the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), described Agbedi’s election as “a watershed moment” in the effort to reclaim the party’s relevance in the House.
“I therefore congratulate my dear colleague and leader on his election, which is a watershed in our quest to reposition our great party as a formidable force ahead of future electoral contests, especially the 2027 general election,” Ugochinyere said.
He described the development as a triumph of party loyalty and internal democracy over what he called “anti-party conspiracies”.
“Today, history was made as despite the wicked plot of the Wike group, the PDP Caucus in the House of Representatives stood its grounds and elected the Rt. Hon. Fred Agbedi as its leader,” Ugochinyere stated.
“The emergence of Agbedi as the PDP caucus leader is an indication that light would always prevail over darkness,” he added.
Ugochinyere did not mince words in criticising the House minority leader, Kingsley Chinda, accusing him of acting out a script designed to weaken the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We witnessed with utter dismay the display of shame by the supposed opposition leader, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, who while acting the script of his boss Wike, did all he could humanly possible to stop the revolution — but to no avail, as the voice of reason prevailed,” he said.
Ugochinyere declared: “This is a clear message to Wike and his allies commanded by Chinda that their plan to keep PDP perpetually weak ahead of the 2027 general election cannot work.”
Pledging his full support to the new caucus leader, Ugochinyere said, “As Agbedi settles down for the task ahead of him, I assure him of my unwavering support to succeed. Together, we will rescue our party from the shackles of implosion and all other antics of Wike and the APC.”
