The member representing Ideato North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, has expressed sympathy with the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, and families of police officers killed in a terrorist attack on a training facility in Yobe State.
At least 17 police officers undergoing specialised operational training were reportedly killed after suspected Islamist insurgents attacked the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Police authorities said the officers were participating in advanced tactical and counter-terrorism training when gunmen launched a coordinated overnight assault on the military facility from multiple directions.
Reacting to the incident in a statement, Ugochinyere described the attack as painful, tragic and a direct assault on Nigeria’s security architecture.
He said the continuous killing of security personnel and innocent civilians by terrorists and bandits underscores the need for stronger and more decisive action by the Federal Government and security agencies.
The lawmaker commended the courage and sacrifice of the slain officers, noting that they paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.
Ugochinyere urged the federal government to immediately intensify military operations against insurgents, bandits and other criminal elements operating across the country.
According to him, Nigeria must declare a full-scale war against terrorism and banditry, warning that anything short of a coordinated and aggressive response would embolden criminal groups.
He also called for improved intelligence gathering, enhanced welfare for security personnel, and stronger operational support for the armed forces and police in ongoing counter-insurgency efforts.
Ugochinyere extended condolences to the Nigeria Police Force, the bereaved families, and the nation, praying for the peaceful repose of the slain officers.
