UK-based Rising Afrosoul Artiste Emelonye Shines @ Lagos Concert

Rising Afrosoul artiste Uchechi Emelonye took the spotlight at the 2023 TD Africa’s Celebrating You Concert held at Konga Place, Lagos.

The performance is the UK-based artiste’s first major performance in Nigeria, coming after release of successful singles Little Black Bird, Sunrise to Sundown, Baby You, and Underwater which clinched the BBC Music Introducing Record of the Year 2022 award at Lancashire, England. 

With her stage presence, vocals and musical style which combines afro and soul, Emelonye talents is recognized by veterans in the industry, including Patoranking; compere, IK Osakioduwa, and fan alike.

“Uchechi is a talented, fast rising singer from a family of very creative people. You will appreciate the depth of her art when you watch her perform,” cites Osakioduwa while introducing the singer on stage. 

Patoranking who also featured at the concert summarized the 22-year-old artiste’s performance in a short complimentary sentence, “See you at the top.”, while a fan and software engineer, Oluwaseyi Oseni describing her music as mature and transgenerational said, “I love that her music is unique, mature and elevated. She has something for the young and the old. 

The younger generation will be captivated by her rhythm, while her lyrics will appeal to the older generation, who grew up in the era of soul music characterized by Anita Baker, Marvin Gaye etc. She is a total package and I know that the future is hers to take.”
