UK Court Remands Nigerian Man Over Wife’s Murder

A 47-year-old Nigerian man, Olubunmi Abodunde, has been charged with the murder of his wife, Taiwo Abodunde, 41.

Police were called to the Abodundee’s home on Exning Road in Newmarket on Tuesday morning, November 7th, after reports of a serious incident. Upon arrival, they found Taiwo Abodundee deceased inside the property.

Olubunmi was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged with murder. He appeared at Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, November 8th, and was remanded in custody to appear at Ipswich Crown Court for a preliminary hearing on December 12th.

A 38-year-old man who was also arrested on suspicion of murder has been released without further action.

Suffolk Constabulary has confirmed that they have referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to previous police contact at the address.

A police cordon remains in place on Exning Road, and residents have been told to expect an increased police presence in the area.

The investigation into Taiwo Abodunde’s death is ongoing.

The Suffolk Constabulary in a statement said, “We are committed to thoroughly investigating the death of Taiwo Abodundee and bringing those responsible to justice.

“We understand that this is a difficult time for the family and friends of the deceased, and we are providing them with support. We would ask that the public respect their privacy at this time.

“Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Suffolk Constabulary on 101, quoting reference number 37/67575226.”
