Investors from the United Kingdom, in partnership with a Nigerian entrepreneur, Prince Tonye Princewill, have begun setting up centres in Nigeria to train youths in key skills, including masonry, carpentry and welding.
Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt, Princewill stated that already, three centres were being set up in Lagos with the fourth centre coming to the Rivers State capital.
He said the investors do not need any assistance from the government, pointing out that the certification they provide can give someone job anywhere.
Princewill said: “The second investment I am bringing is education. It is not everybody that has to go to university. There are some people that need to get key skills, be it masonry, be it carpentry, be it welding, those kinds of skills. And, I am bringing an establishment; they don’t even need money from the government. They are prepared to set up because the know that with the quality of your training, they provide can give people the certification that can give them jobs.
“That quality of education is from the UK. Lagos has taken it up and they are building three centres and I am trying to get them to come to Rivers State. Even if it is one, let them start here. The issue is that let’s have something so that our young ones can get skills.”
He urged Rivers State governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, to ensure the conduct of local government election to take over from the current caretaker committees in the 23 local government councils in the state.
