The Nigeria LNG Ship Management Limited (NSML) Marítime Centre of Excellence (MCOE), has been certified by the United Kingdom’s Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), LEADERSHIP has learnt.
The MCA is an Executive Agency in the Department for Transport (DfT) with the responsibility of issuing Certificates of Competency for Deck Officers and Marine Engineer Officers in the Merchant Navy, Certificates of Competency for Deck Officers.

The agency also issues Marine Engineer Officers for Fishing Vessels, Certificates of Competency for Yacht Engineer Officers and Certificates of Equivalent Competency for UK Merchant Ships and Fishing Vessels.
However, speaking to LEADERSHIP, the NSML Manager in charge of Terminal Operation, Capt. Lawrence Chukwu stated that with the MCA certification, the company is committed to producing quality maritime manpower with globally acceptable certification that would boost the nation’s economy and promote self-reliance Capt. Lawrence further stated that the centre will continue to achieve its goal of delivering quality teaching and learning in the maritime industry.

According to him, with the recognition accorded the MCOE, holders of its certificates enjoy unlimited acceptance in the global maritime community for career progression and job placement.

NSML is providing the needed professional training in maritime especially the operation of gas at home in Nigeria for which many have had to travel abroad According to him, the NSML as a member of the International Maritime Employers Council (IMEC), is committed to its Seafarers Continuous Development(SCD)Programme.
